NFL Combine Gets Underway

The official start of the NFL Combine was Wednesday, but the real part of it begins this weekend. The opening two days (Wednesday and Thursday) are really there for players to arrive in Indianapolis, get situated, and talk to the media.  Once that is out of the way, the drills, workouts, and tests begin.

This year, the number of players invited to the combine was an unbelievable number.  I don't know what it was exactly, but I believe it was in the range of well-over 300 players.  That means you will get to see the superstars and those trying to make a name for themselves all weekend and into early next week.  Scouts from all 32 NFL teams are present, and one great workout could mean the difference between a first or second round pick, and in essence, millions of dollars.

For the Lions, they will be looking at a number of players.  Most of the players Detroit looks at is because there is genuine interest, but others may be for the strategy part of it.  I wouldn't be surprised to see the Lions "showing" great interest in a certain quarterback or two just to elevate the worth of their own pick at #2.

As previously stated, the real workouts don't begin until the weekend.  Saturday through Tuesday will be when players go through speed drills, interviews with teams, other types of workouts, and then take the infamous Wonderlic Test.  If you have the NFL Network (I seriously need to subscribe to that), then prepare for nothing but combine-related programming.  Here is the remaining schedule of the combine on the NFL Network.
