Another Running Back to Visit Detroit

The Lions are bringing in another running back for a visit despite trading for Tatum Bell last week, adding more fuel to the fire of speculation that something is up.

Free agent running back Chris Brown is scheduling a visit to the Lions. Brown's agent, Wynn Silberman, said he expected Brown to arrive Thursday.

"We're excited to see what happens here," Silberman said this afternoon. "Chris is one of the primary backs available."

At this point, I'm not even sure how to interpret this whole running back situation any more.  It could mean a number of things.  I could see the Lions bringing in T.J. Duckett as he fits the role of a short-yardage back, but I don't really get Chris Brown.

Looking at everything, the speculation can go in a number of directions.  This could mean the injury suffered by Kevin Jones is worse than expected, the injuries suffered by Shawn Bryson and Brian Calhoun are worse than expected and there is a need for more depth, a trade involving Tatum Bell might be happening in the future, or the Lions just simply want another running back. Look at it however you want as I really can't tell you which one is the right idea.

In other signing-related news, the Lions re-signed running back Aveion Cason and defensive lineman Cleveland Pinkney to one-year deals yesterday.  The two players were signed during the regular season to fill in for injured players that ended up on IR.
