Lions Sign WR's Marcus Robinson and Cliff Russell; Re-Sign CB Smith

Although the draft is just days away, the Lions were busy making a couple of transactions yesterday.

The Detroit Lions signed wide receivers Marcus Robinson and Cliff Russell and re-signed cornerback Keith Smith on Wednesday.

Robinson was cut by the Minnesota Vikings with one game left last season despite leading the team with four touchdown receptions in 10 games. He started 19 of the 41 games over three seasons in Minnesota, catching 107 passes for 1,553 yards and 17 touchdowns. Robinson has 43 career touchdowns in nine seasons with the Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens and Vikings.

Russell was released by the Miami Dolphins during last season after catching two passes in three games.

What does this mean?  The two incoming receivers probably are here just for bodies once training camp arrives.  Marcus Robinson will have a decent shot to make the team assuming Mike Williams is cut, which is all but a done deal by now.  Keith Smith being re-signed is also to keep some depth at the CB position.
