Training Camp Notes: 8/8

  • The Lions completed day #14 of training camp on Wednesday with a morning practice in helmets and shorts on the outdoor fields.  The public was allowed to watch this practice to make up for the bad weather earlier in the week that kept the previous sessions private.

  • Detroit has been prepping for its first preseason game of the season that kicks off tonight against Cincinnati.  As a reminder, you could still get tickets if you want to attend the game since many are still available.

  • Coach Rod Marinelli on the preseason opener:
"Just the amount of work we have to get done. That is as much fun as anything. We had a really good walkthrough and long meetings yesterday, long day yesterday, really a good hitting practice and then pulled off a little bit. Now it's just the massive amount of details we are pushing at them right now. We'll give them a little time off, have a long meeting tonight, in the morning have a nice brisk walkthrough and then we will get ready to play and keep hammering the details."

Marinelli also said that the starters will likely play 10 to 12 snaps before the second and third stringers come in.

  • Speaking of the backups, J.T. O'Sullivan will come in as the second string quarterback after Jon Kitna exits the game.  O'Sullivan, who only signed a month ago, came in and already has moved up the depth chart.  He will see quite a bit of playing time before Dan Orlovsky comes into the game to finish things out.

  • The opening of training camp went well, leading the Lions to possibly doing it again next year.  I hope it'll get to the point where Lions fans have the chance to attend almost every practice, as it's a great way to see your favorite team up close and personal.
