Although a decision on Mike Martz's status with the Lions is expected in the next few days, so far head coach Rod Marinelli is being completely quiet on the subject. During his final press conference of the season yesterday, Marinelli wasn't about to discuss the future of any coaches, especially Martz, so right now it is just a guessing game when it comes to who the offensive coordinator will be next season.
Even though Marinelli isn't shedding any light on the situation just yet, the actions of Martz really adds to the speculation that he will not return to Detroit for the '08 season, as Tom Kowalski explains.
Sources close to the situation say that Marinelli has already made the decision to move on without Martz (who didn't want to return anyway), but Marinelli wants to wait a day or two before making the announcement official. One of the hangups could be financial because Martz still has one year left on his three-year contract.
As it has been mentioned already, just keep an eye on this story as an announcement or press release in regards to Martz's future should come out pretty soon. My guess is that he is gone and that Kippy Brown will be the replacement. I'm not sold on that move at all, but I guess I'll hold any further criticism until everything becomes official.
