Lions to Pick 15th in '08 Draft

The 2008 NFL Draft features an absolute mess when it comes to sorting through all of the ties that exist up and down the entire lineup.  The first round lineup that exists after most of the tiebreakers have been put into effect has the Lions picking 15th, which is the latest first round pick for Detroit since 2001 when they selected 18th.

The entire order of round one of the draft currently looks like this:

  1. Miami Dolphins (1-15)

  2. St. Louis Rams (3-13)

  3. Atlanta Falcons** (4-12)

  4. Oakland Raiders** (4-12)

  5. Kansas City Chiefs** (4-12)

  1. New York Jets (4-12)

  2. New England Patriots -- From San Francisco 49ers (5-11)

  3. Baltimore Ravens (5-11)

  4. Cincinnati Bengals (7-9)

  5. New Orleans Saints (7-9)

  6. Buffalo Bills (7-9)

  7. Denver Broncos (7-9)

  8. Carolina Panthers (7-9)

  9. Chicago Bears (7-9)

  10. Detroit Lions (7-9)

  11. Arizona Cardinals (8-8)

  12. Minnesota Vikings (8-8)

  13. Houston Texans (8-8)

  14. Philadelphia Eagles (8-8)

  15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers* (9-7)

  16. Washington Redskins* (9-7)

  17. Dallas Cowboys* -- From Cleveland Browns (10-6)

  18. Seattle Seahawks* (10-6)

  19. Pittsburgh Steelers* (10-6)

  20. Tennessee Titans* (10-6)

  21. New York Giants* (10-6)

  22. San Diego Chargers* (11-5)

  23. Jacksonville Jaguars* (11-5)

  24. Green Bay Packers* (13-3)

  25. Dallas Cowboys* (13-3)

  26. San Francisco 49ers* -- From Indianapolis Colts (13-3)

  27. New England Patriots (16-0) -- Forfeit Pick
*Subject to playoffs
**Subject to coin flip(s)

Some explanations for how the order got to be how it is can be found here. It gets awfully complicated for how all of these ties were dealt with, but the link will tell you how things were sorted out. For the Lions, they will be the final 7-9 team to pick since their strength of schedule is so good. They did end up tying with the Bears in that category as well, but since Chicago's divisional record was worse, they got to pick 14th instead of Detroit.
