Lions Notes: The Combine Is Here

  • Rod Marinelli commented on Al Wilson's visit with the Lions that took place last week, and from the sounds of it, Detroit appears as though they won't be rushing anything.  Although Marinelli did have some good things to say about Wilson, he really made it sound like the Lions are going to wait to see how some other things play out before making a move with the middle linebacker.  The way I see it, Marinelli will let Wilson look around and will let the Lions try to fill the need at MLB, and then if Wilson is still available and the need is still there, expect to see the former Bronco in a Lions uniform.
  • The Lions used the Senior Bowl to interview 28 players and will interview even more at the NFL Combine.
  • Speaking of the combine, NFL.com made a widget for the event that will help you keep track of things going on in Indy.

  • Marinelli doesn't plan on getting rid of Shaun Rogers, but does think that the Lions' free agents will test the market before signing any deals with Detroit.
  • Mocking The Draft, SB Nation's draft blog run by New Era Scouting's Matt Miller, posted its top 320 players for the 2008 NFL Draft.  Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long came in ranked #1, which is no surprise considering the talent and work ethic he has.  I would love for the Lions to be able to draft him, but he will be long gone by the time Detroit is on the clock in the first-round.
  • Matt Millen actually broke his silence for a change and talked with Mike O'Hara of the Detroit News.  He didn't say anything too important, but considering how rare it is for him to talk with the media at all, I would read the article to see what he said as it may be a while until we hear from him again.
