Lions Sign Cornerback Brian Kelly

The Detroit Lions have signed cornerback Brian Kelly to a three-year deal, ESPN's John Clayton reports.

Kelly agreed Saturday to a three-year deal with the Bucs, but terms of the deal weren't immediately available. Kelly joins defensive tackle Chuck Darby, safety Dwight Smith and safety Kavlin Pearson, who signed a restricted free agent offer sheet, to work out deals with the Lions.

Kelly is the fourth former Tampa Bay Buccaneer to join the Lions (if Tampa Bay doesn't match the offer made for Pearson) in this offseason alone.  I understand that Rod Marinelli likes to bring in these players as he is familiar with them going back to when he was in Tampa, but at this rate we are going to have to rename the Lions with all of the former Bucs on the roster.

Either way, Kelly will greatly help the cornerback position.  His addition means cornerback once again becomes less of a priority in the draft as the depth chart isn't completely empty.  The CB position still will need to be addressed, but not until a later round.
