The Seattle Seahawks reportedly have told Shaun Alexander that he is going to be released, making him a free agent.
No one with the team has confirmed this yet, but the move would not be surprising. Alexander's fate with the team was pretty much sealed when running backs Julius Jones and T.J. Duckett were signed in free agency.
The reason I'm mentioning this is because Detroit will probably take a look at signing Alexander. The need for additional running backs is there, and although he hasn't been very productive recently, added depth wouldn't hurt.
I would say Alexander will not end up in Detroit as his health is a concern and he hasn't been productive lately. However, if the Lions could get him for a cheap enough price, then don't be shocked if he does become a Lion eventually. If anything happens it will be after the draft, so the Lions will get a chance to find a RB in the draft before doing anything else.
Update [2008-4-22 20:19:14 by Sean Yuille]: Alexander has officially been released. Personally, I don't want an injury-riddled running back that has struggled so much in recent years, but I'm betting that Detroit will at least give him a look.
