Tuesday Notes: Foster to Start at Right Tackle?

  • I imagine the Lions will officially announce that they have signed Rudi Johnson and released Tatum Bell sometime this morning.  The deal still has to become official with the NFL, and then the Lions can put out a press release on the move.
  • George Foster currently is "leading" Gosder Cherilus in the competition to start at right tackle.  Cherilus' development hasn't gone as quickly as originally planned, but I do think he will become the starter eventually this season.
  • Buster Davis, who was cut by the Lions on Saturday, was claimed by the Colts already.  Davis is a good linebacker and I think it was a mistake to let him go.  Then again, the Lions wanted versatile linebackers, and Davis didn't have the ability to switch between the middle and outside.
  • In the Lions' weekly release Matt Vasgersian and J.C. Pearson are listed as the announcers Dick Stockton and Brian Baldinger will be the announcers for Sunday's game against the Falcons.
  • Don't forget to get your fantasy rosters ready by Thursday if you have any Redskins or Giants on your team as the season begins that night.
  • All 32 NFL teams will wear a patch this season to honor the late Gene Upshaw.
