Wednesday Notes: Lions to Work Out Stafford Next Week in Athens

  • The Lions are going to privately work out Matthew Stafford next Tuesday in Athens, Georgia.  If Stafford is going to be the top overall pick, you would think something contract-related will happen next week if it is going to happen at all.
  • Mark Sanchez is reportedly going to visit the Lions on April 16.
  • Martin Mayhew has already talked to some teams about trading the 20th overall pick.  He is open to trading the top overall pick as well, but there hasn't been much interest in it.  Mayhew thinks that if there is any interest in it, teams likely won't display it until closer to the draft.
  • Jeff Fisher had good things to say about former Titans and new Lions Eric King and Daniel Loper.
  • A vote on whether or not the regular season should be expanded to 17 or 18 games could take place in May.
  • Four new safety rules were passed by NFL owners on Tuesday, and they are downright awful.  The NFL is going to be a no-contact league someday if it continues at this rate.  I understand it is important to protect the players, but some of these rules are just ridiculous.
