Lions Trade Down with Jets to Open Third Round

Rather than make a pick to begin day two of the 2009 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions decided to trade down to stock up on picks.  The New York Jets gave up a third-, fourth-, and seventh-round pick to trade into the No. 65 spot, giving the Lions two additional selections for trading down.

Detroit will pick at No. 76, which the Jets had acquired from the Redskins.  The Lions will go back on the clock with the No. 82 pick, which was acquired last year in the Roy Williams trade.  Then, rather than take two full rounds off, the Lions will have a pick at No. 115 overall in the fourth-round.  Finally, the Lions will make two picks in the seventh-round, with one of them coming at No. 228 thanks to the Jets trade.
