The NFL put together a commercial that will air today to thank the Lions and the city of Detroit for being so hospitable to the Vikings this past Monday. Despite the short notice, the Lions got Ford Field ready for another game on Monday, going as far as painting Minnesota's logos on the field to make it as much of a home game as they could. What's more, fans came out in droves for the free NFL action, filling Ford Field and making the environment entertaining despite the Lions not being involved.
The commercial thanking the Lions is on behalf of the NFL, FOX Sports and the Vikings. It is certainly a nice gesture to say thank you to both the team and the city for hosting the game, but I have a tough time saying you're welcome when this is the closing part of the commercial:
Yes, thank you Lions. We appreciate you hosting this game so much that we still don't use your new logo, which was introduced in April 2009. It's only been 20 months, right?
As they say on Monday Night Countdown, c'mon man!
