ESPN's John Clayton is reporting that Seahawks offensive guard Rob Sims is going to sign his tender in order to get the process of being traded moved along quicker.
Seattle Seahawks guard Rob Sims plans to sign his one-year, $1.101 million restricted free-agent tender Thursday, hoping to speed up his chances for a trade, according to a source.
The Seahawks recently informed Sims he was being shopped and they were hoping to get three teams involved. The Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions have expressed interest in Sims and, according to a source, the Philadelphia Eagles might also be interested.
By signing his tender, Sims gives the Seahawks the ability to negotiate a trade without having to bring the required compensation of a fourth-round pick into the equation. That was only in play when he was a restricted free agent, so signing his tender completely cleans the trade slate, so to speak, allowing the Seahawks to start fresh negotiations with the teams interested in Sims.
