2010 Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft: Pick No. 46

Rd. # Player Pos. College
2 46 Tyson Alualu DT
California
General Manager: Kalzilla

With the 46th pick of the 2010 Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, the New York Giants select California defensive tackle Tyson Alualu.

Here is Kalzilla's reasoning for the pick:

Last year, the New York Giants' defense was not very good. It tied with Houston for a solid 13th place in yards against per game but was ranked 30th in points allowed per game with 26.7 (the Lions were 32nd with 30.6). In 2007 and 2008, the Giants' defense was great, but last year the unit was surprisingly disappointing.

In the first round, I selected Sean Weatherspoon, a linebacker. Now, for the 46th pick, the Giants will take DT Tyson Alualu from California. I chose to go defense in the first two rounds as the defense was the Giants' biggest problem last season, and DT is a major need in New York. Fred Robbins is now in St. Louis, and both Rocky Bernard and Chris Canty did not play up to expectations last season.

If the POD draft were to continue for a full seven rounds, I would adopt a best player available approach for round three and later. Some areas of need for New York other than LB and DT are offensive line depth, cornerback, running back, and defensive end.
