Offensive guard Daniel Loper just re-signed with the Lions on March 29, but Detroit has already parted ways with him.
Loper was originally a restricted free agent and had a tender worth $1,226,000. The thinking when he signed the tender was that he would be a backup and also compete for the starting left guard spot. When Rob Sims was traded to the Lions, though, that competition pretty much came to an end, and now that Dylan Gandy has re-signed with Detroit, suddenly things were a little crowded at guard. Loper was the odd man out, and the Lions have released him as a result.
