With the 59th pick of the 2010 Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select Georgia Tech safety Morgan Burnett.
Here is sgdbw90's reasoning for the pick:
I almost regret choosing the Cowboys to be my team in the POD draft. On the one hand, they're nationally prominent, their strengths and weaknesses are well known, and they have a clear and apparent draft strategy in place every single year. On the other hand, my job is almost too easy. Everyone and their mother knew the boys needed an OT and a safety. There was some rumbling to buttress their D-line, but no other position really merited attention in the top two rounds. It's too easy! I'll never have occasion to write enough to get the "continued after the jump" tag I so desire!
Ultimately, we're led to the two best remaining FS on the board - Morgan Burnett (GaTech) and Chad Jones (LSU). It comes down to whether Dallas needs a roving, center fielder type (Burnett) or a big body to challenge at the LOS (Jones). Gerald Sensabaugh is currently lined up to start at SS, but he's a restricted FA and hasn't signed his tender yet, which I'm sure won't endear him to Jerry Jones. Ultimately, this pick will be groomed to replace, not compliment Sensabaugh. Therefore, Dallas will have to go with the more versatile of the two, and that's the 6'1", 210 pound physical specimen from Atlanta. Burnett started as a freshman, led his team in tackles AND interceptions as a sophomore, and has the versatility to play either safety spot. He'll be a crowd pleaser and likely an instant starter in the Cowboys' defensive backfield.
