Lions Sign John Madsen, Release Kole Heckendorf

The Lions made a couple of moves yesterday involving a wide receiver and a tight end.  Specifically, the Lions signed free agent tight end John Madsen and released wide receiver Kole Heckendorf.

Madsen's last NFL team was the Browns, which he played for at the end of the 2008 season after being released by the Raiders.  In 2009, Madsen played for the UFL's Las Vegas Locomotives, making him the third player from that team to join the Lions.  Both Jake Nordin and DeDe Dorsey played for the Locomotives as well before going on to sign deals with the Lions.

Heckendorf was brought in last October as a member of the practice squad.  He was signed to the active roster after the conclusion of the season along with the rest of the practice squad.
