Lions Add New Cornerback, Kicker To Roster

The Lions have been busy this week when it comes to making roster moves, and that was the case again today, as a total of four moves were made:

  • The Lions signed cornerback T.J. Rushing, who had played for the Colts all four years of his career (one of which was spent on injured reserve). He took part in a workout on Tuesday, along with three other cornerbacks, and emerged from the group to help with depth in the secondary.
  • To make room for Rushing, the Lions waived cornerback Jahi Word-Daniels, who was just signed on Tuesday. He got hurt during his first practice back with the team, and that was all the Lions needed to see. With depth still a concern in the secondary, bringing in a new (and healthy) face was necessary.
  • Kicker Steven Hauschka was claimed off waivers from the Falcons. He was made 10 of 15 field goals in two seasons with the Ravens (in 2008 and 2009).
  • With a new kicker coming in, the Lions waived kicker Aaron Pettrey, who missed a field goal against the Steelers.
