Lions Place Jared DeVries On Injured Reserve, Sign 2 Defensive Players

Dave Birkett is reporting that the Lions have placed defensive end Jared DeVries on injured reserve.

DeVries had arthroscopic knee surgery on Thursday, and although the hope was for him to be back "relatively soon," the Lions went ahead and put him on IR. I figured this is what would happen simply because it seemed like DeVries' rehab would take more than just a few weeks and the Lions weren't going to waste a roster spot on someone who is injured. In that regard, this move is no surprise.

In other news, the Lions made the following moves in the last couple of days:

  • Placed safety David Roach on the waived/injured list
  • Signed safety John Wendling, who was with the Bills from 2007 to last season before being waived back in February
  • Signed defensive lineman Jaron Baston, an undrafted free agent who was on the Broncos' roster at some point this offseason
