2011 NFL Mock Draft: New York Giants Select Danny Watkins

With the 52nd pick of Pride of Detroit's 2011 NFL Mock Draft, the New York Giants select Baylor offensive tackle/guard Danny Watkins. Elfuego51 is serving as the Giants' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.

As mentioned with the Giants' first-round pick, New York is on the verge of a major need on the offensive line that will take multiple drafts/offseasons to fully replenish. The Giants will start reloading by selecting Danny Watkins. He's a late bloomer to football having never played before he got to junior college. Since then, he has quickly picked up the sport and nuances of the offensive line. Sporting a 6-4, 312 lb. frame, he was a force as Baylor's left tackle for two years and showed an ability to play guard at this year's Senior Bowl. Since he is still relatively new to football, some worry about his ability to pick up the NFL game, but the veterans currently with the Giants should give him plenty of brains to pick to continue his development.
