We are only 24 days away from the 2011 NFL Draft. The offseason has seemed to move a bit slowly since there has been no free agency period and no talk about possible trades, but the draft is already nearing. It's hard to believe we are in April already, but in just a few weeks all of the mock drafts will be put aside for the real thing.
As the Detroit Lions continue to prepare for the draft, more players are expected to be hosted for visits. One of the players coming to town today is UCLA linebacker Akeem Ayers, who said on Twitter a couple hours ago that he is "at the airport headed for Detroit." I would imagine Ayers' visit will be held tomorrow, and chances are the Lions' official site will have something about it.
Dave Birkett reports that Martin Mayhew was at UCLA's pro day last week to get a look at Ayers. The visit will give the Lions another chance to meet with him. (For more on the Lions' visits, check out the pre-draft visit tracker.)
In other pro day news, Jim Schwartz attended Texas' pro day last Tuesday. I forgot to mention this when I did a post about how Schwartz visited the pro days of three schools in the Carolinas, capping off what seems like a busy week as far as scouting was concerned.
