Gil Brandt, the one-time vice president of player personnel for the Dallas Cowboys, is a big fan of Jim Schwartz. Not only does he have the Detroit Lions ranked in the top 10 of his offseason power rankings, but he recently said this about Schwartz in an interview with the Detroit Free Press:
"There's only one person that I have ever had contact with that understands the play of every position more than Jim Schwartz," Brandt said. "And that was Tom Landry."
"Schwartz can tell you how to snap the ball," Brandt said. "Schwartz can tell you how the holder should hold it. Schwartz can tell you -- I mean, the guy's a very bright football person.
"I think that he can take any position and analyze it and usually, because of some tweaking, they got guys that are players."
Brandt has said in the past that he has a "little bit of a connection" to Schwartz, which could be why he likes him so much. Regardless, that is some pretty high praise to say only Tom Landry is better at understanding different positions than Schwartz.
