Lions Rookie Johnny Culbreath Expects To Sign Soon

With NFL free agency basically being underway right now, one thing that has sort of been overshadowed is the need to sign draft picks. Usually that is the main focus this time of year. In the days leading up to training camp there is a rush for teams to get picks signed so they don't miss any practices. There is usually a holdout or two that makes for some drama before all of the focus turns to the on-the-field activities.

This year, rookie signings are sort of an afterthought. With the new rules and rookie wage system, no extended holdouts are expected, so not as much drama is anticipated. That's not a problem since free agency is providing plenty of drama that we missed out on back in March, and that is why the focus is squarely on it.

Although free agency is definitely more interesting, it's important to remember the Detroit Lions have five rookies to sign. One of them, seventh-round pick Johnny Culbreath, expects his deal to be completed in the next 24 hours.

In addition to Culbreath, the Lions will need to sign Nick Fairley, Mikel Leshoure, Titus Young and Doug Hogue.
