Linebacker Nick Barnett visited the Buffalo Bills on Saturday. The original plan called for him to visit the Lions on Sunday, but that was no longer necessary after Stephen Tulloch signed a deal with Detroit. Barnett decided to stick around in Buffalo today and ended up agreeing to a deal.
The Buffalo Bills and former Packers LB Nick Barnett reached agreement on a three-year, $12 million deal including $6 million gtd.
This deal makes Martin Mayhew's move to sign Tulloch for one year and $3.25 million look even better. Tulloch is only 26, whereas Barnett is 30, and Tulloch seems like he has more upside going forward.
Obviously bringing in a guy from a division rival wouldn't have been a bad move, and it's worth noting that Tulloch could command a much bigger deal next offseason if he has a good 2011. Even so, the fact that the Lions got Tulloch for only $3.25 million ($1.8 million guaranteed) this year while the Bills gave $4 million a year to Barnett shows what a great move it was.
