According to Pro Football Talk, the Detroit Lions recently put in a roster claim for defensive end Hilee Taylor. Taylor hit the waiver wire after being let go by the Carolina Panthers last Friday, and the Lions were awarded his contract.
The issue right now is Taylor has failed to report to the Lions. Detroit has in turn put him on the reserve/did not report list, which means he doesn't count against the 90-man roster.
Taylor was originally selected by the Panthers in the seventh-round of the 2008 NFL Draft after playing for North Carolina in college. He made the 53-man roster and appeared in 10 games in 2008 and six games in 2009. He didn't put up any significant stats, though. Last year he didn't have any stats because he missed the year with a knee injury.
For the time being the Lions have Taylor's rights. If he reports at some point, he will likely compete for the final spot at defensive end with Willie Young since Turk McBride is now with the Saints.
