Detroit Lions Training Camp: Notes From Thursday's Practice

  • The Lions have released their training camp schedule through next Wednesday. It is as follows:

Saturday, Aug. 13 - No Practice
    Sunday, Aug. 14 - 2:30 p.m.
    Monday, Aug. 15 - 9:15 a.m.
    Tuesday, Aug. 16 - 9:15 a.m.
    Wednesday, Aug. 17 - 3:15 p.m.

All of the practices are open to the public.
  • Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo and former Tigers great Willie Horton attended practice on Thursday. Izzo is a big fan of the Lions and Jim Schwartz.
"I just love what (Schwartz) stands for, who he is, what he is," Izzo said, "and I'm really liking this team. I think they've really made some progress in the last couple of years. Some of it showed in wins last year, but a lot of it shows in all the other parts. So I'm impressed. I had a chance to get to get down – this is my off month – and I wanted to spend some time (here).
The Lions have also had Sinbad, Jeff Fisher and Jeff Daniels visit practice in the last week.
  • Calvin Johnson apparently went through the stretching and warm-ups but didn't practice. It appears he simply got a day off to rest, and Johnson sounds like he is planning to play on Friday.
  • Gosder Cherilus once again practiced, and it sounds like he will play on Friday as well.
  • Titus Young and Brandon Pettigrew were among the players who missed practice.
  • Tony Ugoh once again was not at practice. There's still no word on what's up with him outside of the retirement speculation.
