Before the deadline for teams to get under the NFL salary cap, the Detroit Lions were reportedly $5 million over the maximum. While it looked like some players could be cut to free up cap space, the Lions opted to instead restructure contracts. After doing so, the team not only got under the cap, but they created about $1 million in cap space, according to various reports.
NFL Network's Jason La Canfora has the Lions' cap space at $995,047.34. He lists their total salary as $119,379,952.66 and their adjusted cap number as $120,375,000.00.
Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio has the Lions' cap space (as of Monday) at $1.1 million. That ties them for the third least amount of cap space on PFT's list. On La Canfora's list the Lions have the fourth least amount of cap space.
Although there are some differences between the two sets of numbers, both have the Rams and Vikings as the two teams with the least amount of cap space and the Chiefs and Buccaneers as the two teams with the most cap space.
