Detroit Lions Training Camp Comes To A Close

  • Today's practice marked the close of Detroit Lions training camp. Practice will obviously continue as the Lions close out the preseason and get ready for the regular season, but the training camp portion of the summer is now technically over.
  • Wide receiver Calvin Johnson returned to practice after missing a couple days with a sore shoulder.
  • Defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch, who also has a sore shoulder, was out once again.
  • Running back Jahvid Best and wide receiver Titus Young were able to practice again.
  • Cornerback Alphonso Smith was not able to make his 2011 practice debut. This means he is still on the active/non-football injury list.
  • According to Tom Leyden, defensive tackle Quinn Pitcock received a challenge from Lions coaches to catch a punt from Nick Harris. As you might expect considering he's a defensive tackle, Pitcock didn't make the catch, and the team got a kick (no pun intended) out of it.
  • The CBS broadcast crew of Greg Gumbel, Dan Dierdorf and Lesley Visser attended practice to prepare for Saturday's game.
