Nick Fairley Among Nine Lions Players Absent From Wednesday's Practice

The Detroit Lions' injury report seems to be growing by the week. I suppose that's no surprise considering injuries and bumps and bruises are a given as the NFL season progresses. I also suppose it's no surprise that the Wednesday injury report was so large for the Lions. If players are held out of practice because of minor injuries, Wednesday is usually the day they are sidelined.

For the Lions on Wednesday, a total of 15 players appeared on the injury report. Nine of those players missed practice; five were limited in practice; and only one player listed on the injury report fully practiced -- Matthew Stafford. The full rundown is after the jump.

Did Not Practice

WR Calvin Johnson (Ankle)

WR Rashied Davis (Foot)

OT Jason Fox (Foot)

DE Kyle Vanden Bosch (Not Injury Related)

DT Nick Fairley (Foot)

LB Justin Durant (Concussion)

CB Aaron Berry (Groin)

S John Wendling (Knee)

S Louis Delmas (Abdomen)

Limited In Practice

WR Maurice Stovall (Hand)

TE Brandon Pettigrew (Shoulder)

DE Lawrence Jackson (Hamstring)

LB DeAndre Levy (Knee)

CB Eric Wright (Groin)

Fully Practiced

QB Matthew Stafford (Right Forearm)

The fact that Fairley did not practice makes it pretty clear he won't play this week. It seemed unlikely even with the ESPN report out there about him possibly seeing limited action on Sunday, so it still looks like his debut will come in the Monday night game against the Bears at the earliest. The Lions have no plans to rush Fairley back, and that's the right way to handle the situation.

The other thing I want to note about the injury report is that Davis is now out with a foot injury. He missed the Vikings game with a hamstring issue, and apparently that might be related to his foot problem. He was wearing a walking boot at practice on Wednesday and will visit Dr. Robert Anderson (dun dun dun) on Thursday in North Carolina.
