In addition to fine-tuning their 53-man roster, the Detroit Lions are also busy assembling their practice squad today. A number of players released yesterday by the Lions are expected to be signed to the practice squad, but the first player we know has signed is from another team.
Congrats to client Casey Bender (OL). Just signed to Detroit Lions practice squad.
Bender, who is an offensive tackle, entered the league in 2010 as an undrafted free agent from South Dakota State. He originally signed with the Cleveland Browns and was let go during the final round of roster cuts last year. He joined the Indianapolis Colts back in January, and he was let go a few days ago.
In other practice squad news, Dave Birkett reports that wide receiver Nate Hughes and safety Ricardo Silva cleared waivers. Both players are expected to be signed to the Lions practice squad.
