Cliff Avril injury: MRI on Lions DE's back comes back negative

Detroit Lions defensive end Cliff Avril got good news on Monday when his MRI test came back negative, indicating that he should be good to go after the bye.

Tim Fuller-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

During Sunday's game, Detroit Lions defensive end Cliff Avril went down with what appeared to be a serious injury. It looked like he injured his knee since he went down without any contact. The first thing that came to my mind was that he hurt his ACL, which would have been bad news for both him and the Lions.

Luckily, it turns out Avril hurt his back, not his knee. What's more, Avril had an MRI on Monday, and the results from that test came back negative. Avril had this to say on Monday (via MLive):

"Everything went fine, I think," Avril said. "Everything came back negative. That's a positive. Just got a rest a little bit. It's a good week for a bye week."

Indeed it is a good week for the Lions' bye. Avril should be able to recover with the week off and get back at it in Week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles. The same goes for some other injured players, such as safety Louis Delmas.
