The Detroit Lions were without six players during practice on Wednesday. Running back Mikel Leshoure headlined the list, as he was out with an ankle injury. It isn't believed to be serious, so this was probably a case of Leshoure getting some rest more than anything.
Here's a full look at the Lions' Wednesday injury report:
RB Mikel Leshoure (Ankle) - Didn't practice
WR Calvin Johnson (Thumb) - Limited in practice
OT Jeff Backus (Hamstring) - Didn't practice
OG Rob Sims (Hamstring) - Limited in practice
DE Cliff Avril (Back) - Didn't practice
DT Corey Williams (Knee) - Didn't practice
LB Ashlee Palmer (Thumb) - Limited in practice
CB Jonte Green (Illness) - Didn't practice
CB Jacob Lacey (Foot/knee) - Limited in practice
CB Chris Houston (Ankle) - Limited in practice
S Louis Delmas (Knee) - Didn't practice
For what it's worth, Backus said on Tuesday that he is hoping to play this week since his hamstring is "feeling better," according to Dave Birkett. I'd say it's probably unlikely given that Backus missed practice on Wednesday, but if he gets back on the field in the next two days, he certainly would have a shot to play. For the Lions, it might actually be better to give Riley Reiff another chance to start so he can gain more experience.
