Calvin Johnson has done it. With his 10th catch of the night against the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday, Johnson broke Jerry Rice's record for the most yards receiving in a single season. Johnson needed 182 yards to break the record coming into the game, and he currently has 204 yards.
On the season, Johnson now has 1,871 yards receiving. Rice's 1,848 yards in 1995 were previously the most ever in NFL history, but Megatron has cruised past that mark in only the 15th game of the season. Now Johnson can turn his attention toward becoming the only player to ever record 2,000 yards receiving in one season.
Earlier in the night, Johnson set the Detroit Lions single-season receiving record by passing Herman Moore. He also set the NFL record for the most consecutive games of 100 or more yards (8) and tied Michael Irvin's record for the most 100-yard games in a single season (11).
While 2012 has certainly been a season to forget for the Lions, Johnson has at least made part of it worth remembering. Thank you, Megatron.
