Today in Indianapolis, several awards for the 2011 season will be handed out at the inaugural NFL Honors show. Rather than just have these awards announced separately over the course of a few weeks, the NFL decided to make an event out of it by bringing them all together for an awards show.
One of the awards that will be handed out at NFL Honors is the AP Comeback Player of the Year. Many believe Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford will win the award after putting together an amazing season. Considering his first two years in the NFL were riddled by injuries, giving Stafford the award would certainly make sense. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith is also one of the names being tossed around for the award.
It's worth noting that the AP Comeback Player of the Year award is presented by Van Heusen, which has apparently become a sponsor of Stafford:
This could just be a coincidence, but I think Stafford is a good bet to take home the award. We will find out for sure later today, as NFL Honors will be taped from 6-8 p.m. (ET) and will air on NBC from 9-11 p.m. (ET). You can check out a full rundown of the awards being handed out and the notable players set to be in attendance below.
