Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford may not be playing in the Super Bowl, but he has been a busy man down in Indianapolis this week with all of the promotional appearances he's been making. The latest came today when he coached one of the teams in the 2012 DIRECTV Celebrity Beach Bowl. Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was the coach of the other team, and Stafford's squad won the game. From Tim Twentyman:
With quarterback Warren Moon and star receiver Snoop Dog (game MVP), Stafford guided team Palladia to victory over the Cam Newton-coached Spike team.
There were a lot of former players and celebrities in the game, including Barry Sanders, Jim Brown, Joe Montana, Desmond Howard, Deion Sanders, Erin Andrews and Maria Menounos. Interestingly enough, Sanders was on Newton's team rather than Stafford's, although Stafford did have Howard, who is also a former Lion, on his squad.
John Tracy, the Lions fan who won DIRECTV's Ultimate Displaced Fan contest, got to play for Stafford's team. That had to have been pretty cool, although I would have been more excited about being on the field with Kate Upton, Chrissy Teigen and the aforementioned Menounos and Andrews.
