Last offseason, the Detroit Lions added free agent linebackers Justin Durant and Stephen Tulloch to bolster their starting lineup. Durant signed a two-year deal, but Tulloch's deal was for only one year. As a result, he is set to become a free agent on Tuesday. It's very possible he could leave for a new team, as his value is perceived to be pretty high on the open market.
Durant certainly hopes that Tulloch will be back next season. He wants the linebacking corps to return intact after they grew together as a unit over the course of last season.
"As we were going through last season, we started watching more and more film together, learning each other more," Durant said. "I think that year that we had already, we did OK, but we can get a whole lot better. Hopefully, Tully'll be back this season and we'll be able to continue on what we started."
Durant went on to say that he understands this is a business and he tries to stay out of the personnel decisions, but he let Tulloch know he wants him to return. Let's hope Tulloch and the Lions can agree on something and Durant will get his wish.
