Quarterback Drew Stanton is open to returning to the Detroit Lions, and the Detroit Lions would like to bring him back. Stanton, however, first wants to see if there are any opportunities out there that would give him a better chance at seeing the field. Assuming the Lions are able to re-sign Shaun Hill, Stanton would be the third-string quarterback again if he stays in Detroit, and in that role last season he wasn't even active for a single game.
One possible landing spot for Stanton is New York, where the Jets are apparently looking for a backup quarterback. Stanton is set to visit the team sometime this week, according to Manish Mehta.
Jets searching for No. 2 QB. Source tells me free agent Drew Stanton, who played 4 seasons w/ Lions, is visiting Jets in couple days. #nfl

*Insert jokes about how Stanton would win the starting job over Mark Sanchez here.*
In all seriousness, if Stanton gets offered the backup job with the Jets, that is a really good opportunity for him and it'd be hard to pass up. While I hope he ultimately ends up staying with the Lions, he deserves a chance to compete, and the Jets would afford him that if he is tabbed as Sanchez's backup.
