Cornerback Cortland Finnegan is officially reuniting with one of his former coaches. The former coach is not Jim Schwartz, but rather Jeff Fisher, the head coach of the St. Louis Rams. From Adam Schefter:
Rams and free-agent cornerback Cortland Finnegan reached agreement on a five-year deal worth about $50 million.

$50 million over five years is out of the Detroit Lions' price range right now, so it's no surprise that they weren't able to get in the mix for Finnegan. While there was speculation that they might take a run at signing him, I think that was based on the cap situation being a little better than it is. The Lions had to work just to get under the cap, and if anybody is going to get a sizable deal right now, it's probably going to be Stephen Tulloch.
What will now be interesting to see is what other cornerbacks on the open market get. The market has been set, and I'm sure guys like Brandon Carr and Eric Wright are very happy to see that Finnegan got such a big deal.
