Wednesday was a very good day for Detroit Lions fans. Wide receiver Calvin Johnson signed a new deal that will keep him in Detroit through the 2019 season. This means the best wide receiver in football is set to be a Lion for at least eight more seasons, and it also means that the Lions actually have some cap space to work with really for the first time this offseason.
I found out about the news that Johnson had received a new deal while I was actually transcribing an interview that Jerry Mallory did with Isaiah Ekejiuba (it will be posted shortly) for the Pride of Detroit Podcast. I did a Jim Schwartz-like fist pump (thankfully I wasn't in class, as the one I normally have at that time was canceled on Wednesday) and then quickly wrote up some stories to post here.
How did Jerry react? He provided a comedic take on hearing the news for his latest video on the Pride of Detroit YouTube channel.
I think that just about sums up everybody's thoughts on the deal.
