Offensive tackle Eric Winston will not be visiting the Detroit Lions. Plans called for him to check out the Lions on Monday if he remained unsigned, but he is no longer a free agent.

You can scratch Winston off the list of possible additions to the Lions. You can also stop thinking about how he might be added as an upgrade at right tackle. For now, Gosder Cherilus' starting job at right tackle is safe.
While Winston is no longer an option for the Lions, they are still in the mix for Geoff Schwartz and Marcus McNeill. Schwartz can play both guard and tackle and visited the Lions on Friday. McNeill will likely only be signed if the Lions can't bring back Jeff Backus. Right now, McNeill appears to be the Lions' backup plan at left tackle.
