The Detroit Lions have decided to bring back punter Ben Graham. He has been re-signed to a one-year deal. The Lions announced the move this afternoon.
Graham joined the Lions during the middle of the 2011 season. After starting punter Ryan Donahue went down with an injury in practice, the Lions had to scramble to replace him. They initially tabbed Robert Malone as the man for the job, but he only lasted one game. After that, the Lions brought in Graham, who performed pretty well during the final seven games of the regular season, averaging 44.1 yards per punt.
With Graham set to return to the Lions, it appears he will battle Donahue for the starting job at punter during training camp this upcoming summer. Donahue played relatively well in 2011 after winning the job in camp as an undrafted free agent, but Graham will provide a good challenge.
It should be an interesting battle to watch come August.
