New York Jets Trade Drew Stanton To Indianapolis Colts

Drew Stanton has been freed!

The New York Jets moved Stanton on Friday by trading him to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for what is believed to be a late-round draft pick. This means Stanton will likely get to be the backup quarterback to Andrew Luck, who is essentially a lock to be the No. 1 pick of the 2012 NFL Draft. Right now, aside from Stanton, the only quarterback on the Colts' roster is Trevor Vittatoe, who was an undrafted free agent last year. Unlike the situation in New York, there is no question about what Stanton's role will be going forward.

This trade also means that an interesting circle has been completed.

The Colts, by the way, are going to come to Detroit to play the Lions in 2012. If for some reason Luck isn't the starter, Stanton very well could get a chance to take on his former team.
