ESPN's Todd McShay released his latest 2012 NFL mock draft on Wednesday. This version includes two full rounds, giving us a chance to see what McShay has teams doing beyond the first 32 picks.
For the Detroit Lions, McShay has them going defense with each of their first two picks. In the first round, he has them selecting Illinois defensive end Whitney Mercilus, giving them even more depth at one of their already strong positions. In the second round, McShay has the Lions selecting UCF cornerback Josh Robinson, who is best known for running the fastest 40-yard dash (4.33) at this year's NFL Combine.
Here's what McShay had to say about the Mercilus pick:
The Lions put the franchise tag on DE Cliff Avril, and Kyle Vanden Bosch will be 34 this season, so now is the time to add an edge rusher to make sure their defensive line will remain a devastating force for years to come. Mercilus has quickness and a knack for big plays, but he is still developing and this would be a good situation for him.
Sounds good to me.
