Report: 'Not A Chance' Lions Will Trade For Asante Samuel

In case you missed it, yesterday there was a report from Mike O'Hara saying that the Detroit Lions still had interest in trading for Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel. Shortly after that came out, NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reported that the Lions were not interested in acquiring Samuel. O'Hara then reported the same thing, reversing course on his initial story.

Any buzz that the Detroit Lions are interested in pursuing a deal for Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel has been swiftly muted and unplugged.

It apparently rates a zero on the noise meter.

"Not a chance," a league source with knowledge of the Lions’ interest said Thursday.

It seems like we can close the book on this possibility with multiple sources reporting that the Lions are not interested in trading for Samuel. Considering this all came out after a report suggested they were interested, I suppose it's possible that the Lions leaked out their lack of interest as a bargaining chip, but it seems unlikely. Given Samuel's salary, I'd have to think that is the main reason they aren't interested in making a move right now.
