2012 POD Mock Draft: Jacksonville Jaguars Select Quinton Coples

With the seventh pick of Pride of Detroit's 2012 NFL mock draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select North Carolina defensive end Quinton Coples. The Profiler is serving as the Jaguars' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.

Just because Peyton Manning is gone doesn't mean the Jags don't need help with their horrid pass rush. With Andrew Luck, Jake Locker and Matt Schaub serving as the future of the AFC South, Jacksonville will be in need of a player to get after those QBs. Coples is the best defensive end in the draft and the Jaguars are excited to pick him at seventh overall.

While there have been some questions surrounding his work ethic, most people feel those questions have been answered. So the Jags will take him here in hopes that they have landed the next elite North Carolina pass rusher. While Blaine Gabbert is in serious need of some offensive help outside of my man MJD, there is no one on the board at this point worth the seventh overall pick. I look at the Jags like the Lions only a few seasons ago. Their No. 1 need in this draft is talent. While I was considering Melvin Ingram, I felt Coples was simply the better player, and with Morris Claiborne and David DeCastro off the board, it was simply a matter of seeing who was next on my board. Coples it was.
