RB Stephfon Green (Penn State) - Undrafted Free Agent
Because of the uncertainty at running back, the Detroit Lions are a good team to sign with for undrafted free agents who play the position. Penn State's Stephfon Green is one UDFA running back who decided to sign with the Lions. He is a speedster who will look to leave his mark and play his way onto the team this summer.
Experts' Opinions
Is at his best in space where he can be a threat with his straight-line speed. However, isn't a real natural runner and his size and off the field concerns will keep him from getting drafted. Is worth a shot in a camp though as a potential 3rd down guy.
ESPN:
Quick enough to turn the corner and showed a second gear when got a seam. Can cut back and bounce runs outside but average elusiveness and didn't make as many defenders miss in space as team would prefer from a back his size.
ESPN on Green's off-field issues at Penn State:
"Police found marijuana residue and drug related items at the apartment Green shared with three teammates in April of 2009. However, all four players were cleared and a visitor that did not attend Penn State was charged at the end of the investigation."

Outlook for 2012
Green reminds me a lot of Jahvid Best given his style of play and elite speed. In that regard, Green could be somebody who potentially has a chance to make the team should Best not be able to continue playing because of his concussion issues. Even if Best is cleared, perhaps Green could stick around as the final running back on the team or make the practice squad.
