As of last week, the Detroit Lions were still in discussions with some of the free agent safeties they had hosted for visits earlier in the offseason, according to general manager Martin Mayhew. Also as of last week, all of the safeties who had visited were still free agents. That is no longer the case, though.
On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Eagles signed safety Oshiomogho Atogwe, who had previously visited the Lions back in March.

Out of the three safeties the Lions brought in for visits this offseason, I was really hoping Atogwe would be the one who ended up signing with them. Atogwe grew up a Lions fan and is from Windsor, and it just seemed like a really good fit.
With Atogwe now signing with the Eagles, it appears the Lions will have to turn their attention to Chris Crocker and Sean Jones, who also visited the team this offseason, if they want to add more depth to the safety position.
