Lions Have $3.77 Million In Cap Space, According To Report

Limited cap space may have kept the Detroit Lions from making any real big splashes during free agency, but the front office has done an excellent job of maneuvering around the cap to re-sign key members of the team. Before free agency began, the Lions were projected to be over the cap, but thanks to some restructuring of deals and other moves, the Lions created enough room to give Calvin Johnson a new deal, franchise Cliff Avril, re-sign Jeff Backus, re-sign Shaun Hill and re-sign Stephen Tulloch, just to name a few transactions.

Currently, the Lions still are in pretty good shape when it comes to the salary cap. Pro Football Talk posted the salary cap numbers for all 32 NFL teams as of June 22, and the Lions are pegged as having $3.77 million in cap space. This puts them ninth in the league in terms of teams with the least amount of cap space, and generally speaking, they're in pretty good shape.

The team with the least amount of cap room in the league right now is Baltimore. According to PFT, the Ravens only have $606,000 in cap space. Next on the list with only $1.34 million in cap space is Oakland.

The team with the most cap space, according to PFT, is Jacksonville. They have a whopping $25.1 million available, which is a significantly higher amount than the Tennessee Titans ($19.97 million), the team with the next highest amount of space. Amazingly, the Philadelphia Eagles are third in the league in terms of available cap space with $18.02 million freed up.
