Detroit Lions safety Louis Delmas didn't take part in today's practice, and he sat out the second half of Sunday's practice as well, according to Dave Birkett. Delmas was watching from the sideline today, and there was concern that he was once again injured, which would explain why the Lions were giving Don Carey first-team reps at safety.
As it turns out, Delmas isn't hurt. The Lions want him to stay healthy, and they simply gave him some time off, according to Jim Schwartz.
Schwartz called Delmas' absence "Preventative medicine." Said Delmas will take some days off in camp.

#Lions coach Jim Schwartz said Louis Delmas had the day off today. No injury

It appears the Lions have put Delmas on the Kyle Vanden Bosch plan where you occasionally are kept on the sideline by coaches to keep you fresh and healthy. If that's what it takes to get Delmas through the season, I'm all for it. He is a valuable member of the defense but has had issues staying healthy in the past. Hopefully this will help combat potential injury problems.
